Did You Know?
Veggie Wash™ is great for more than just fruits and vegetables. It can also clean countertops, cutting boards and other food preparation areas – without alcohol, bleach, or harmful chemicals!
Studies suggest that some of these chemicals may be toxic to the human body. Specifically, pesticides have been linked to cancer, reproductive problems, and neurological disorders and can be especially harmful to children, the elderly, and anyone suffering from a deficient immune system. In addition to agricultural chemicals and other residues, 20 or more strangers may have handled your fruit or vegetable before you put it in your mouth.
Veggie Wash safely and effectively removes the wax, soil and agricultural chemicals found on standard and organic produce. It cuts through the wax and chemicals to leave fruits and vegetables truly, safely clean. What’s more, Veggie Wash is 100% natural, using ingredients from citrus, corn and coconut to remove harmful substances.
Veggie Wash was created in response to their customers’ need for a safe, effective way to remove chemicals and other residue from produce. Many of their other products are also all-natural, and they are proud of their constant innovation to continue providing high-quality, effective products that harness the power of natural ingredients.
Veggie Wash Questions & Answers
How does Veggie Wash work?
Veggie Wash uses natural cleaners from citrus, corn and coconut to break up the wax, soil and agricultural chemicals on fruits and vegetables so that it can be easily and safely rinsed away.
Why should I use Veggie Wash?
Modern produce is kept healthy, bountiful and fresh by a variety of agricultural chemicals and waxes. If not properly removed, however, these chemicals can create both known and unknown health risks to consumers. Even organic produce has been shown to carry some chemical residue. In addition to agricultural substances, your produce can carry the ‘fingerprints’ of 20 or more people who may have handled it between the field or orchard and your table. Veggie Wash safely and effectively removes wax, chemicals, ‘fingerprints’ and soil – leaving behind only fresh, delicious produce and the peace of mind that comes with feeding your family the very best.
Why is Veggie Wash better than just water?
Most agricultural chemicals and waxes are designed to be waterproof, so that rain and irrigation do not wash them away. Water alone does not penetrate or remove these substances. Veggie Wash safely removes them.
Why can’t I use soap on my produce?
Substances like soap, bleach, and other chemicals are not made with food-derived ingredients, and they are not designed (or safe) for use on food. The residue from these substances can not only affect the taste of your food, it can lead to illnesses such as vomiting and diarrhea, even in very small quantities.
Where can I buy Veggie Wash?
Veggie Wash is available in the produce section of large and small grocers across the country. You may also buy Veggie Wash directly on this site.
Which vegetables and fruits can be cleaned with Veggie Wash?
Veggie Wash is designed for use on nearly all types of produce, including firm items such as apples and carrots, and softer items like leafy greens, grapes, and broccoli. For instructions on how to clean different types of produce, visit our spray or swish page.
Which items should NOT be cleaned with Veggie Wash?
Mushrooms are not recommended for use with Veggie Wash. Mushrooms will absorb Veggie Wash due to their porous skins, and may taste bitter or lemony after washing. It is still safe to eat them after cleaning them with Veggie Wash, but the taste may be affected. Strawberries, which also have fairly porous skins, should be washed by adding 2 oz of Veggie Wash to a half sink of water, agitated for 30 seconds, then rinsed thoroughly.
If I am going to peel an item before eating, I don’t need to wash the outer skin, right?
Wrong. Unwanted substances, like chemicals and soil, can be carried through the skin of the fruit on the surface of knives, peelers, and other utensils. To ensure safe eating, always wash oranges, lemons, potatoes, watermelons, and cantaloupes with Veggie Wash before peeling or slicing.
Can I spray Veggie Wash directly onto my fruits and vegetables?
Firm fruits and vegetables, like apples, peppers, and tomatoes can be sprayed directly with Veggie Wash. Simply spray on, rub for 20-30 seconds, and rinse thoroughly. For more information, visit our Spray or Swish™ page.
What is the best way to dilute Veggie Wash?
For cleaning broccoli, lettuce, and grapes, we recommend diluting Veggie Wash with water and swishing the produce around in the mixture before rinsing. Use 2 oz. (about ¼ cup) Veggie Wash to each gallon of water – approximately half a standard sink-full. Then rinse produce thoroughly before eating.
When should I clean my produce?
Clean your produce with Veggie Wash just before, or on the same day, you plan to cook or consume it. While removing pesticides and harmful chemicals, Veggie Wash also removes the substances, like wax, used to keep produce fresh for longer. Produce washed with Veggie Wash has been returned to a natural state, and may age more quickly than treated produce.
Someone told me that Veggie Wash makes a great cleaner for the refrigerator. Is this true? How do I use it?
Because it is made with natural cleaning agents, a mixture of Veggie Wash diluted with water is a safe and effective way to clean your refrigerator and other food storage areas. Be sure to rinse thoroughly with water, as the natural oils in Veggie Wash may leave a slippery residue.
Does Veggie Wash have other household uses?
Our customers have told us that Veggie Wash’s natural cleaning agents work on a variety of household challenges, from the kitchen to the bathroom and beyond. We always recommend testing a small area of any material before applying Veggie Wash to prevent damage to surfaces and fabrics.
I used Veggie Wash on my mushrooms, and now they taste funny. Why?
Mushrooms are highly porous and absorbent, which means Veggie Wash residue can remain in them after use. For this reason, we do not recommend washing mushrooms with Veggie Wash, as it can leave a bitter or acidic aftertaste. This aftertaste is not dangerous, and will not hurt you if eaten. For the safest mushrooms, we recommend buying organic whenever possible and rinsing thoroughly with tap water.
I cleaned some apples with Veggie Wash a few days ago, and now they have brown spots on them. Why did this happen?
By removing chemicals and preservatives, Veggie Wash returns produce to its natural state. This may speed up aging and allow natural processes (like the oxidation which creates brown spots on apples) to occur. For this reason, we recommend washing your produce just before you plan to consume or cook it.
If my fruits and vegetables taste or look funny after using Veggie Wash, is this dangerous?
No. Neither the natural aging of produce nor the residue of Veggie Wash is harmful. It may affect the taste of your food if not rinsed properly, but it will not hurt you.
Will Veggie Wash add fat or calories to my food?
Veggie Wash does not add calories, fat, or nutrients to your food.
What do you mean when you say that Veggie Wash is all natural?
Veggie Wash is made from ingredients naturally derived from corn, coconut, lemon and grapefruit seed extract. It contains no harsh chemicals.
Is Veggie Wash toxic if consumed?
No. It will not harm you if consumed.
Does Veggie Wash contain gluten, DEA or SLS?
Veggie Wash does not contain gluten, diethanolamine (DEA) or sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS).
Does Veggie Wash have an expiration date? How long will it last?
