A Search For God; Chapter on Meditation
Paragraphs 13-14
Some people have abused their own mind so much that they have made scars for themselves. These are mental scars. So they have scars instead of the “mark of the Lamb.” Because of what these persons have done with their minds, they can not use the right ideal for their meditation. The idea or picture that they use is imperfect. Since it is not a perfect ideal, the meditation can not rise up inside of the body. Instead, it just fires up the “carnal” desires of the body (which we said were things like sex and eating). The ideal that is raised can not be given out, either; it just stays inside the person, at the lower Spiritual Centers.
Now let’s look more closely at the Spiritual Centers in your body. They are actually your glands, also called your endocrine or glandular system. The lowest glands in the body are the reproductive glands- yes, the sex glands! The Creative Forces (or the Power of God, the Spirit of God) start out in the cells of Leydig. These cells are in the sexual organs and they secrete sex hormones. You can think of these cells like a motor that raises up the spiritual power in the body. So, in our bodies, all of Life starts in the sexual and reproductive organs. And everyone alive on earth has some amount of these hormones at all times in their bodies.
So you start meditating and you raise a certain picture, an idea, in your mind. If your idea is consistent with the highest Ideal, then the Life Force (Creative Forces, or God) then begins to rise up the other Spiritual Centers of the body. This path up the body has been called “the Appian Way.” The Appian Way is a road in Italy that was the most important ancient Roman road. In our bodies, again, it is generally the spinal cord (nervous system) and the glands or endocrine system. These two systems are closely connected. It rises up to the base of the brain. Here you will find the pineal gland. The pineal gland is very powerful. It influences everything that happens in your mind and in your body. From the pineal gland, the Spiritual Energy finally rises up to the “Hidden Eye,” or the “Third Eye.” This is the highest Spiritual Center. It is actually the pituitary gland. It is right in the center of your forehead, just above the top of your nose, in the center of the brain. Now you are in deep meditation.
