Hi! I’m Dr. Moses, and I LOVE comedy!
Thank you for joining me in supporting autism related non-profits with our show, “This Is Crazy: A Comedy Show About Autism!” I’m super excited to be bringing Kirk Smith to the stage. Kirk is an author and comedian, and he has a son with autism. His show is based on his experiences with his son.
When I first saw Kirk perform at a comedy club in Hollywood, I was truly inspired. He was funny- yes- but it was also different from other types of comedy. It was positive and uplifting!
Even though we were laughing about him and his son, there was no negative connotation whatsoever. The deeper spiritual message is profound, yet simple: It is possible to laugh in the midst of our situations, no matter how bad our situation seems to be.
We are always seeking comfort. We want to eat in bed, be constantly pleasurized, and feel really really good. 😃 Reality deals us a different hand, obligating us to sacrifice, to serve and to love others. We call our situation “unfair,” and “suffering,” whether we have to drive to work in traffic or take care of a child with a disability. Either way, life is life, and reality is here. All we can do is BE here, totally, and laugh.
The hardest part of life is our resistance to it. How can one resist what IS? It IS, it IS, already. To resist is to suffer. Instead, by accepting life, by embracing our responsibilities, by living fully in every moment, we can “enjoy”, or live life in-joy.
Does that mean we can still change our situations, make choices, and change our minds? Of course! But do so with joy, staying present, laughing at whatever comes up.
I hope that you take this experience home with you, and be forever willing to laugh at whatever responsibilities you choose to embrace, and whatever comes up for you.
