I abhor allergies.
I’ve been plagued with excessive mucous in my nose since early childhood, resulting in chronic ear infections to the point of needing tubes and even surgery.
As a teenager, I remember walking around with a runny nose all the time, always sniffling. When it got bad, I took Benadryl, which would knock me out. Otherwise, I lived with it.
Finally, in recent years, I’ve been able to conquer my allergies. I would say I can control them about 90% with natural means, and for the other 10%, I resort to medications.
By using a few simple but consistent steps,
I have cured my own allergies by about 90%.
Problems caused by Allergies and Sinus congestion:
- Congestion causes mouth breathing.
- Interferes with deep sleep, even sometimes causing sleep apnea and/or insomnia.
- Causes bad breath, dry mouth, and dry lips.
- Annoying to have to blow your nose constantly.
- Dry, red, and cracked nose from all of the wiping.
- It’s a nuisance to always need tissue when your nose is running.
- Allergies leads to Sinus Infections.
- Sinus Infections lead to antibiotic use, which is harmful to the natural health of our small intestines and colon.
- Unable to breathe well through the nose causes poor smell, which makes it more difficult to taste foods.
- and on and on!
Let’s talk about the two main parts of sinus congestion and allergies, and how to cure it!
1. Engorgement of the blood vessels that go to the sinuses.
This is caused by an imbalance in the nervous system. The “sympathetic” nerves close off the vessels, making it easy to breathe through your nose.
- Some people use AFRIN (oxymetozalone) which activates those nerves. It works like a miracle for a day! But then if you stop using it, the congestion gets worse! So stay away from Afrin, please!
- SUDAFED (pseudoephedrine) and phenylephrine both work in the same way, by affecting these nerves. They are both common in decongestant preparations. If I have a head cold or really bad allergies, and my favorite antihistamine (zyrtec) isn’t working, I then resort to some of this. (This has phenylephrine which can cause insomnia and high blood pressure, so consult your doctor first.)
- The NATURAL way to rebalance these nerves is through EXERCISING THE NECK. You will notice an instant clearing of your sinuses. They work! Do them! See video below:
2. Mucous production
- Herbal Breathing (formerly called Inspirol)
- I have had a bottle of this in my closet for the last 10 years! (Not the same bottle, of course!) All you do is inhale the fumes throughout the day, whenever you feel that little tickle in the back of your throat. It takes away the tickle and stops the mucous production. It is truly miraculous. I can’t live without it (although I rarely need it anymore.)
- INHALE THE FUMES several times through each nostril, and blow out the mouth. Then inhale through the mouth, and blow out the nose (this allows the fumes to hit the back of the turbinates inside of the nose.) See the video below:
- Allergies to ragweed and other pollens in the air.
- Ragweed Tincture: This is an amazing product. I take AT LEAST ONE BOTTLE EVERY YEAR to keep up my immunity to Ragweed. Ragweed is the most common allergen (an allergen is something that causes allergic reactions in the body.)
- There is new research showing that we can build immunity by eating small amounts of the allergen over a long period of time.
Bonus Material: Remember that congestion in your digestive tract will cause mucous release!
Gluten
- Gluten is found in most of our breads and pasta. The worst thing to put in our bodies is white bread! It sticks to the sides of the colon, causing the colon wall to get thinner, allowing toxins to constantly reabsorb into the body. NO MORE WHITE BREAD!
- Even if you already only eat whole wheat bread, try stopping gluten totally for one week. You will be surprised at how you feel!
- Mainly, stop all breads and pasta.
- You can ask your doctor to do a blood test to check for gluten sensitivity. This is not 100% accurate, though. Being aware of your body and experimenting with your diet is the best way to know which foods you are sensitive to.
Dairy
- Again, cut out all dairy for a week, especially milk.
- If you restart dairy, go for raw milk, organic milk, almond/soy/rice milk.
- If you stay off of dairy, just take a calcium supplement to replace the calcium in milk. You can do this for the children also.
Meats or certain fruits and vegetables.
- Experiment! There are no shortcuts to getting to know your body and what works for you.
- You can also consult with a Naturopath or Allergist that does allergy testing.
- Going vegan has helped me tremendously. I use a protein supplement instead of eating meat, and I feel amazing- physically and spiritually.
Colon cleansing: We must keep the colon clean! It is vital to the health of your whole body! Please don’t neglect your colon!
- Colonics or home enemas: Do a series of 3-6 of these to start with. Then do them ONCE A MONTH, or as needed, for maintenance.
- Miralax: Miralax (or any generic equivalent brand) is a stool softener that just holds water in the gut. It is a powder, has no taste, is minimally absorbed into the body, is NOT HABIT-FORMING and has no reported side-effects, except a loose stool if you take too much. It’s my favorite! (As with all medicines, there is a small amount of chemical absorption into the body. There’s nothing better than natural, like colon cleansing, fruits, vegetables, and water.)
- Sometimes I’ll spike the milk so the whole family can have some nice, soft bowel movements!
- Eating 30 grams of protein in the morning, as a shake, with some citrus fruit, has changed my bowel movements completely. Here is that article.
In summary, to cure your allergies, all you need to do is:
- Neck stretches every day.
- Ragweed Tincture every day.
- Herbal Breathing several times per day.
- Eat well, poop well.
It works! Let’s start breathing through the nose again, America! 🙂
Love,
Dr. Moses.
Antihistamines/Decongestants: Some not natural suggestions, but sometimes needed 🙂
- When things get out of hand, my favorite antihistamine is Zyrtec. Makes you a little tired, but works well and is only once every 24 hours.
- When it’s really bad, if I have a head cold with severe congestion, I then resort to a combination of chlorpheneramine (a strong, short acting antihistamine similar to benadryl), and phenylephrine. Consult your doctor first; phenylephrine can higher your blood pressure and make you nervous.
