I’ve always had this fear that if I was to meditate too much, and become TOO Spiritual, that I would become a zombie, or die, or disappear. I would walk around like Eddie Murphy in Holy Man (it’s a movie, yes), with no emotions, no desires, and no drive to live life.
The reason I had this fear was because I couldn’t tell the difference between my ego’s desires, and my heart’s desires.
With spiritual growth, we can let go of the ego, let go of anger, and misery, and negativity; but that’s not all of who we are!!!!!!!
When you let go of the negativity, your true self- your Heart, your Soul, your Piece of God-Light- begins to SHINE!!!
And as it shines, you begin to open up to a new perspective on life. You see things differently, you feel a deeper compassion for others, you feel connected to people. Your emotions deepen, and even though some of those emotions are compassion, maybe even sorrow, they come with a sense of Peace and Joy.
I’ve found that happiness is a different picture than what I had imagined! I’m not trying to show off or anything, I’m still at the beginning of this wonderful journey, an adventurer, like You. But I’m starting to scratch the surface of a different feeling of what happiness Is.
You see, the more I practice my spirituality, the more I foster my devotion to the Divine, I don’t disappear! Negative feelings disappear, reactions get duller and duller, and common pleasures like food become less interesting.
But what does happen is that doors open. Relationships blossom. Emotional intimacy with others becomes deeper and more real. Choices to follow my heart and my passion become easier to make, and are not painful for me or for the ones I love.
The important things get better.
So, what do YOU want out of life? If it’s just more fleeting pleasures, then maybe you have some soul searching to do! But if it’s a burning desire to express God’s Creative Power in your work, in your life, in your relationships, in your Art, in EVERYTHING- then what can we do to get you there?
So here’s your exercise:
Write in your journal:
If I had all of the time in the world, I would:
If I had all the money in the world, I would:
If I could reach any goal that I set, I would:
If I could instantly have any education I wanted, I would:
I would be so excited if I could:
I would just love to be able to:
Take your time with this. Allow yourself to be child-like, with a sense of wonder. Anything’s possible. Don’t feel like you have to actually accomplish any of it! Just let your heart open up, and write for as long as you want, exploring all of the wonderful possibilities. No limits.
Post your answers below if you’re willing to share. I’d love to help.
Love,
Dr. Moses.
